In the world of real estate and community building, few individuals stand out like Steven David Elliot, the visionary entrepreneur behind Rockstar Connect and many other businesses. From his early career in social work, later career in marketing sales, and the rare book business, to becoming a successful real estate agent and business owner, Steven’s journey demonstrates his passion for connecting people and creating opportunities.
In 2006, Steven foresaw an economic downturn. He explains, “I felt that Raleigh was the perfect place to sit out a recession and a great place for opportunities.” He made the move from Miami to venture into the next chapter of his life.
ROCKSTAR CONNECT
After 15 years selling rare books in his four stores, he wanted to share his knowledge of business development and sales. With a keen understanding of the power of networking, he entered the real estate arena to demonstrate how connecting people could elevate them to local fame and success. His Rockstar Connect business events quickly gained traction, hosting countless networking events across the United States and Canada and reaching over half a million people.
Interestingly, the foundation of his business was built through his book business that he had for 15 years. “I grew a successful business through hosting small events in the community,” explains Steven. “I held farmers’ markets, art festivals, author events, music series, and networking events. I had the hypothesis that if someone hosted networking events, they would be successful in their career.” Rockstar Connect was the answer that proved that hypothesis true.
MEET SARAH, STEVEN’S SECRET WEAPON AND PARTNER
At the heart of Steven’s success is his partnership with his wife, Sarah, who serves as the Director of Operations, creating efficient systems to run their multiple companies. Together, they lead a diverse team encompassing real estate professionals, financial advisors, and marketing experts, reaching a vast audience of 1.5 million through emails and hundreds of Facebook pages.
“I’m interested in guerrilla marketing,” Steven declares, emphasizing his proactive and unconventional approach to business. His early career as a social worker laid the foundation for his commitment to helping others, a principle that guides his every decision in the real estate industry.
COMMITTED TO THE COMMUNITY
Beyond real estate, Steven and Sarah are deeply involved in community engagement. They throw parties, entertain, and host events, fostering a sense of connection and belonging. With two daughters (ages 13 and 21) and two bull terriers in tow named Ziggy and Mary, they enjoy both family life and the vibrant events they organize.
Reflecting on his career, Steven emphasizes his commitment to helping others. “The most important thing for me is to help other people. I get an amazing return on investment on that because I feel good.” His passion for community building extends to mentoring new agents and engaging in profound conversations with established professionals.
Steven shares, “I’m most proud of the fact that we are able to impact so many people in so many meaningful ways and continue to do so. We are committed to doing that. I’m not the type of person who’s going to retire. As long as I can, I’m going to do things for the community, whether it’s in a professional capacity or as a volunteer.”
CURRENT AND FUTURE PROJECTS
One of Steven’s current projects involves collaborating with partners to build 68 townhomes in Smithfield, showcasing his dedication to creating vibrant affordable communities. Looking ahead, Steven envisions significant growth for Rockstar Connect and the Rockstar Connect Club, his version of Facebook and LinkedIn designed to connect people globally.
“We want to meet people, figure out what their goals are, and how we can help them achieve them,” says Steven. “I want to figure out how to help them and I also introduce them to our enormous network.”

Steven David Elliot sees himself as an entrepreneur in the opportunity business, always seeking innovative ways to impact lives positively.
